Interactive Marine Biology on Zoom for curious surfers!
Join me in my new virtual Surf Science series on Zoom! As a seasoned surfer with over 15 years of surfing waves, big and small, around the world, I love helping aspiring surfers overcome challenges and reach their goals. I'm also a marine biologist (BS Marine Biology and MS Microbiology) and environmental science educator. Tune in each week for a 30 minute virtual surf science presentation, followed by a 30 minute interactive group discussion and Q&A. Fun & educational for all ages! WEEK 1 - Thursday July 16th, 5pm PT "SoCal Surf Sealife - SAND CREATURES!" Join us for an intro to some common wildlife you might encounter while surfing in SoCal waters... Today we're talking about SAND CREATURES! All ages - Bring some paper and something to draw/color with! Dive into a golden seascape off our California coast-- kelp forests! Kelp forests are home to a wide diversity of life and one of the fastest growing organisms on Earth. Join us to learn about Giant Kelp, Giant Seabass, leopard sharks, and kelp-urchin-otter interactions. We'll also learn how SCUBA-diving scientists study this unique and valuable ecosystem-- and try it out ourselves! Sometimes it can be scary to think that there could be sea creatures like stingrays and sharks around, so come get a closer look with us and see how cool and friendly these species can be as we get into....
